Supporting Your Research
Your research is important to us. Here are the major services we offer to assist you in finding the resources you need.
Every department is assigned a subject specialist, a librarian who purchases books, evaluates electronic resources, assists with any questions you have, and helps your students with their research.
Galvin LIbrary manages IIT's Digital Repository - an online server space dedicated to collecting, preserving, and disseminating the full range of academic and intellectual output of IIT in digital form. Learn more about the repository here.
If the item you need is not available through IIT Libraries, you can request it from another library.
Books and other returnable materials can be borrowed through I-Share, an online catalog that allows 24/7 access to the collections of more than 90 academic libraries that are part of CARLI (Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois)
WorldCat is an online catalog that contains the holdings of more than 8,000 libraries worldwide. You can place requests in WorldCat for materials not owned by IIT or I-Share Libraries.
IIT faculty can request that in-house journal articles (those located only in print at the Galvin Library) be scanned and delivered via e-mail using the MyILL system once you create your library account.
Have a student assistant? You can modify your library account so that your assistant can check out items and place inter-library loan requests for you. Contact the circulation department 312.567.6847 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
Have a book you'd like us to purchase? contact our collections group. This can also be used to recommend journals and databases.
