Books

There are two catalogs you can search in for books. The IIT/I-Share catalog is where you can find the books owned by IIT Libraries as well as a group of libraries in Illinois who have agreed to share their books with each other.

The WorldCat catalog can be used to order books that aren't available in I-Share, as long as they are textbooks.

Textbooks

We try to keep at least one copy of every undergraduate textbook available on reserve (use for two hours in the library). Use our textbook lookup to find reserve textbooks.

Library Accounts

You will need to create two different library accounts. Your IIT/I-Share account will allow you to view your checked-out items and renew them online.

Your MyILL account will allow you to order books through the WorldCat catalog and also order scanned copies of journal articles that Galvin Library does not own.

Articles / Journals / Databases

The libary subscribes to over 150 databases to help you with your research. These databases contain millions of journal articles, but also Ph.D dissertations, building standards, encyclopedia entries  and more. Everything is available to current IIT students, faculty and staff.

View all databases by title.

Finding the Right Database

You can find articles by subject, or contact your subject specialist for help in that area.

You can also browse databasesby the types of content they contain, such as dissertations, language resources, or general reference sources

Off-Campus Access

As long as you're an active Illinois Tech student, you should not have any problem accessing databases from off-campus. If you can access this database (from on or off campus), you'll be fine.
If you're off campus and are having problems, contact the Office of Technology Services.

Set Up Google Scholar

When Google Scholar knows you're a part of Illinois Tech, it can link you directly to some of our subscription databases. Many database vendors allow Google to index their content; change your settings to make your searches more powerful. To do this, go to the Library Links section of Google Scholar settings. Search for "IIT" and add any results you find for Illinois Tech. This will allow Google Scholar to access IIT's databases to locate your article in full-text.
