Find It at Galvin Library Library Home

SciFinder Scholar

Before you can access SciFinder Web, you need to create an account. (Current registered users can click here to access the database.)

Obtaining a SciFinder Account

  1. Contact reference@iit.edu from your IIT e-mail address. You will need to provide your name and 8-digit IIT ID (CWID) in the email.
  2. Once your status has been verified, you will receive instructions on how to create your SciFinder account. Read the license agreement carefully. This is a legally binding agreement that you will be required to abide by. CAS is known for monitoring usage closely.

Note that IIT's subscription to SciFinder only allows for five (5) simultaneous connections.
Please log out of your SciFinder session when you are done using it.

Help

  • If you are accessing SciFinder from off campus, you will see a warning message about Galvin Library's security certificate being "untrusted" or "invalid." This will not keep you from accessing the database; simply click "yes" to accept the warning and proceed to the SciFinder home page.
  • Click here for the SciFinder Scholar Support home page. This page contains training manuals on using Scifinder (including video tutorials), as well as technical support.
  • Note for Linux users: While Linux is not officially supported by SciFinder, it can be used on Linux systems. There may, however, be compatibility issues with the IcedTea java plugin, depending on your system configuration. If you experience problems using SciFinder Web with IcedTea, such as stalled logins or failed or partial page loads, removing IcedTea & installing the Sun/Oracle Java plugin may resolve these issues. IcedTea is installed by default on some Linux distributions, such as Fedora & Ubuntu, as part of the OpenJDK or OpenJRE packages. Please consult the support pages for your Linux distibution for more information.
