Organizations
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers, today's ASME promotes the art, science &
practice of mechanical & multidisciplinary engineering and
allied sciences around the globe.
Society of Automotive Engineers--IIT Chapter
Located at the Illinois Institute of Technology campus,
the chapter consists of and is not limited to Aerospace
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Computer Engineering, and Computer Science Majors. Students in
the organization have access to a one bay garage, workshop,
machine shop, and an office space. The main purpose of our
chapter is to promote a hands-on experience and provide the
opportunity for students to apply what they learn in the
classroom to a real-world project. Our activities prepare
members for the challenges they will face in the workplace and
as one of the only student engineering organizations on campus
that have hands-on projects, members graduate with a competitive
edge over other students.
Search Engines
Google Scholar
Search for scholarly publications online. Use the IIT links in the
search results to see if the library has access to full-text.
Scirus
This site searches scientific literature and information in selected
journals and the Web. Use the "Advanced Search" feature to limit
the results to computer science. Also, by enabling IIT in the Library
Partner links under Search Preferences, you can connect directly
to the library's online full-text journals.
Universities
Department
of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering at IIT
This site describes degree programs, research areas, department contacts,
course schedules, organizations and more. Although the site lacks a search engine, it has a
straightforward layout, is easy to use, and suits the needs of IIT
faculty and staff and anyone interested in attending IIT.
Electronic Design Library
Supported by Engineering
Academy of Southern New England (EASNE), this project is aimed at
providing mechanical engineering related information to conduct
student design projects. The design information consists mainly of
material selection and property, standard machine elements, links to
various manufacturing companies and case studies of different
engineering projects. The
site lacks a search engine; however, the content is on target.
A Heat Transfer Textbook, 3rd Edition. John H Lienhard IV, Professor, University of Houston. John H. Lienhard V, Professor, MIT.
The
first two editions of this widely used, highly respected textbook
are followed by the third edition, a 600+ page full-text searchable
online .pdf file available to download for free for noncommercial
purposes within copyright restrictions. The full text of equations, figures, tables, etc. specific to
the topic are provided. Source
includes a table of contents and index. The pdf format allows one to search the text. Suitable for anyone with an interest in heat transfer.
Engineering Sites -- General
dlnet: Digital Library Network for Engineering & Technology
DLNET is a project funded by the National Science Digital
Library initiative of the National Science Foundation. The site provides access to learning tools for engineering
through browse and search functions.
Associations & Organizations -- General
American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE)
National Academy of Engineering (NAE)
